Big Brother spy Online

The concept, 'Big Brother,' comes from George Orwell's book Nineteen Eighty-four. It's well past 1984; in fact, people born in that year will be able to legally vote, smoke and make whoopee soon. The concepts expressed in that book are quite frightening, probably because they are so insidious and actually are possible.

I learned about a 'Big Brother' utility that Adobe Software installed on your computers with Photoshop v6.0. This is apparently an applet designed in an effort to either combat the piracy of their software or facilitate customer support by generating a database of users and information about their computers without distraction or user effort. The applet runs invisibly in the background when the Internet is accessed.

This is how it is done: a small program launches and gathers a list of the programs and the serial numbers that you are using for those programs and forwards them on to Adobe Online without you knowing. This program is called AOM. I understand Adobe's interest in cutting down the piracy but I don't like the 'Big Brother' method that they are using. What other information is being sent about me? Kinda scary....

If you want to stop this program from launching and sending daily information to Adobe do the following:

Install the program, then run the program once, then:

Go to Start;
Find;
Files or Folders;

Do a Search or Find for the following files on all drive partitions and delete them:
* AdobeOnline Inventory
* Adoberegistrationenu.html
* AdobeWeb.dll
* *AOM

Open up your System Hard Drive;
Open up the System Folder;
Open up the Application Support Folder;
Open up the Adobe Folder;
Open up the Web Folder;

Delete the following files:
* AdobeOnline Inventory
* Adoberegistrationenu.html
* AdobeWeb.dll
* *AOM
