Adding  or  Removing Programs  or   Applications

Ignoring these is the #1 way to permanently screw up your computer !

1. First know the program or game you are installing. Programs and games from the most famous " Names" can blow  up ( hose ) every thing and make one terrible mess of your time. Know that its made to install on your particular Operating System, with or without a new patch. If its shareware or freeware see if its listed at both Stroud's and Tucow's , studying their review, before considering it for trial. If its from the big people, go to Google, and type in its Name, version # and " review" to get some independent opinions.     Onward !

2. If running a NT Operating system, such as NT4, Win2000, or XP create a back up floppy disk before , then after, installing.

3. In Win95, Win98, Win98SE, or ME. First Close All running Programs , that you see running on the task bar at bottom, then close any remaining programs between the speaker and time at bottom right ( by right mouse clicking ), Then close any remaining  by the three finger salute ( control, alt & del ) (except Explorer and Systray in the handicapped systems) ,  double clicking each until all are gone. Make sure you close any Anti Virus programs, as they are the most  dangerous,  to have running .

4. In NT4, Windows 2000 and XP Operating Systems, Close All running Programs by the three finger salute ( control, alt & del ) double clicking each until all are gone.

5. Then go to Start, run, and browse to the setup.exe file using Windows Explorer on the media and run it.

     A. If the program or application is old or won't install or run properly  go to the compatibly page.  <<< here >>>

6.  Later when you learn more ( like how to make separate partitions ) you will want to install Programs and the operating system on different partitions ( drive letters ).

7. Be very agreeable when Installing, always select " Custom " if given the chance to see the individual components; relax don't change the default settings and continue along, unless you have lots of experience to make a change.

8. When Removing, if prompted, say No to Removing All Shared DLL's.

9. Always re start the computer, allowing the registry entries to be properly executed, even if not prompted.
