Compatibility of Programs with NT4, Win2K and XP
The more stable NT operating systems, listed above, are actually 4 to 6 Operating Systems in one thanks to this manual compatibility configuration ability !
If the program or application is old or won't install or run properly. After a normal installation, first try running the program in Windows 95 compatibility mode by right mouse clicking the icon you run the program with, selecting properties, compatibility. Then next try some newer modes such as Win98. Even if you run the program in Win95 or 98 mode you are still reaping the benefits of running the program in a much more stable, separate memory allocation. Sometimes it also helps to limit your Video resolution to 640 x 480.
If this doesn't work try
removing and re-installing the program using the " properties
compatibility mode " by bringing up " Windows Explorer " locating
your CD or Floppy you will install your program from, locating the " setup.exe "
install file and right mouse clicking it, selecting properties,
compatibility and selecting run in Windows 95 and then double clicking ( running
) this file and installing the program . After
Installation using the Icon you will launch the program with; do this again
with the icon you will run the program with (IE setting the properties compatibility mode). This even occasionally applies to programs written in 2003 claiming
to install and run in XP, such as a few from Broderbund and others. More compatibility info for XP
